Why does milk make you fat seems to be one of
the most popular questions that I'll repeatedly hear as a fitness
trainer. It's hard for my clients to believe when I'll recommend to
them that they very much limit their intake of dairy because it's most
likely going to make them fat. Maybe this is because we've been
imprinted since childhood that we should be drinking milk and eating
diary all the time. Since humans are the only mammals that drink the
milk of others it should be easier to realize that we shouldn't really
be drinking too much of this stuff.
One of the main reasons that
milk will make you fat is because of the high fat content it contains.
Dairy milk is naturally supposed to feed baby cows and to properly
nourish them they must have a high amount of fat in the milk. And this
is great if you're a calf and looking to grow but for us we're not
designed to keep drinking milk a few years after birth. The easy
solution would to believe that all you have to do is buy the low-fat or
the non-fat brands of milk but then you'll be taking away all the
nutrients that the milk provides so you'd be better off just drinking
water.
Another reason why milk makes you fat is because it causes a
high insulin response in the body. Even though dairy has a relatively
low glycemic index rating it has still paradoxically been proven to
cause a high insulin response in the body similar to that of white
flour. And once this hormone is released into the body it'll set off a
chain reaction of hormone releases in the body that will effectively put
your body in fat storing mode. The worst part about this is that
you'll also see a reduction in hormones that will cause your body to
burn fat and build lean muscle.
The pasteurization and
homogenization of milk is also going to cause some problems in the
digestion of the dairy. Even though you may kill the "unhealthy"
bacteria when you pasteurize the milk it'll also kill all of the good
enzymes and bacteria that help you digest the milk in the first place.
Many people who are lactose intolerant are easily able to drink raw milk
because it still contains the lactase enzymes that allow easy
digestion. Killing all the bacteria and enzymes will cause the body to
not absorb the nutrients correctly and can even cause irritation to your
digestive tract. I hope this helped answered why does milk make you fat and think twice before you eat dairy next time.
