Bloating After Eating - How to Relieve Abdominal Distention When Eating Healthy Foods Causes Gas

With bloating after eating, you have the sensation of swelling and tightness in the stomach and/or intestines. Your pants may feel tighter and you may have pain accompanied with gas after eating.

Most often the reaction is to consider that you have eaten something that didn't agree with you and then try to avoid those foods. That may work for the short term; however, bloating after eating can be a sign of other digestive problems. Now, if this is the case, then often the complaint becomes, "I bloat up even after eating healthy foods."

For many, the simplest cause of abdominal distention is swallowing air when you eat or drink. We all swallow some air when eating, but those who gulp air in are more likely to be just eating too fast. The gas that you swallow expands when warmed up to body temperature and causes pain as it passes through the intestines.
To solve this you would slow down when eating. Chew your food and relax or not tense up. Don't eat when you are upset. Drinking through a straw eliminates gulping air in when drinking.

Another cause of bloating after eating is not having enough hydrochloric acid for digestion or having low stomach acid. Your doctor can test for this and may then have you take a hydrochloric acid supplement with your meals.

Another cause is over eating. When you over eat you stretch out the stomach and it doesn't have the room it needs to contract and work the stomach contents for digestion. Smaller, more frequent meals is the solution to this cause.

Intestinal gas can be from the waste given off by the unhealthy bacteria living on undigested food in the intestinal tract. If your food is not fully digested, it is a breading ground for unhealthy bacteria. Many times the bloating after eating is caused by both swallowed air and gases from undigested food. Just so you know, swallowed air doesn't have a bad odor when passed.

The goal is to have an efficient digestive system. Efficiency means that you have the nutrients, enzymes and digestive secretions present to be able to digest your food well. You see, if your food is well digested, there is nothing left for the unhealthy bacteria to feed and live on. They die off and you have no gas.
To keep digestion efficient, smaller meals are needed. This allows for enough mobility of the digestive tract to do its work. Too much food stretches everything out and mobility is limited. But, smaller meals help in another way too...

Smaller more frequent meals also reduces the demand on the digestive juices and enzymes. A lower demand of digestive secretions means your food is more likely to be more fully digested because the demand can be met.

Healthy eating plays a role in good digestive health. But, it can also be a bit of a problem when it comes to bloating after eating. Let me explain...

Eating healthy provides all the nutrients most of us need to maintain a healthy digestive tract. But good healthy nutritious food is also feeding that bad bacteria in the gut. The unhealthy bacteria thrive and give off gases, which cause you pain. One may give up healthy eating because of the phenomenon.

That would be a mistake because without a healthy diet, your digestion and overall health would surely suffer.
The solution is to eat well and in a way to kill off the bad bacteria in your gut. As I explained, smaller meals would leave less undigested food for them to live on. That's your first step. Eat smaller more frequent meals.
The second is to eat foods that would kill them off. Acidophilus or probiotics are healthy bacteria your digestive tract needs to function properly. These probiotics will kill off the unhealthy bacteria. You can get probiotics from yogurt. It should contain live active cultures and be organic.

Organic yogurt is the only one you should eat. The only exception would be to make it yourself. Genetically altered food is not permitted in organics. That means that the bacterial culture in the organic yogurt cannot be from genetic engineering.

Bloating after eating can be embarrassing and painful. However, it is possible to get relief. Make an appointment with your doctor for a full examination to determine the cause of your digestive problems. Then with the cause nailed down, a care plan can be worked out for you to follow.

Can You Gain Weight By Drinking Milk?

Dear DM,

Can you gain weight by drinking milk? Just wondering cause I drank like 3/4 of the milk box today.
Confused in Semenyih

Dear Confused in Semenyih,

If I were you, I wouldn't worry too much about your milk intake. The fact that you pose the question to me in such a way tells me that you are under the impression that milk can be a 'fattening' food item. Don't look at things that way. I've lost count of the number of times I've heard:

1. Are potatoes fattening? 2. Is this ice cream fattening? 3. These cakes look so fattening.. I think I'll have these chocolate cookies instead.
Often, people miss the point. Almost every food item, no matter how healthy it is, when eaten EXCESSIVELY - will cause you to gain weight. Yes, even if you drank protein shakes excessively all day too (even it they contain 0% fat), and you exceed the number of calories required by your body for the day - you will store it as bodyfat.
If you sat at home and ate 100 apples, and it's more than what you need - you will pack on bodyfat. At the end of the day, what matters is if you ate more than what your body requires for that day. If you did, then your body is going to store those additional calories as bodyfat.

Why then are cakes, cookies, ice-cream viewed 'negatively'? Simply because there are much healthier and more nutritious alternatives. A slice of fruit could fill you up more than a large chocolate cookie with more nutrionally dense calories. Foods that are high in sugar are often viewed as 'empty' calories. For example, I'd rather get my calories for my snack from a can of tuna and a glass of milk, instead of 2 large cookies and a can of coke - both probably supplying the same number of calories, but my body would thank me for going ahead with my choice.

So will you let me eat my cookie now? Yes, of course you can. And keep in mind that they are empty calories, but at the same time, wont really throw your diet off balance when incorporated as part of a healthy and balanced diet, and eaten in moderation.
By the way, milk is a superior beverage choice and is far better than drinking soda and fizzy drinks such as cola and sugary fruit flavoured drinks... like Ribena? *hint hint*. Milk is also packed with the amino acids and minerals that can help keep your hair strong and healthy.
Plus, I've read that scientific studies show that people who include three portions of dairy, in a healthy balanced diet, gain less weight than those who eat less dairy. Now.. how cool is that!

5 Best Herbal Teas For Weight Loss

The weight loss industry has become big business... even herbal tea manufacturers are jumping on the band wagon at this epidemic phenomenon. 5 best herbal teas for weight loss explores the nature and 'actions' of popular herbal tea blends that help with weight loss and weight control.

Having to consider losing weight and hearing that four lettered word... D-I-E-T... is something that makes the majority of us cringe with despair. Whether it's starving yourself on the latest fad diet, or spending ridiculous amounts of money on the newest weight loss program - that make big (yet mostly false) claims to radically reduce your weight in the quickest amount of time - most of us will succumb to this false ideology that looking slim is 'in'.

Herbal teas are a cheaper and healthier alternative in helping with weight loss. But don't be fooled for one second that just solely drinking herbal teas will achieve this. The truth is, there is no magic drink, or pill, or lotion or potion for that matter that can help you lose weight without much effort on your part. The keyword is 'helping' and herbal teas are considered an excellent tonic in aiding weight control and in maintaining a healthy body.

The mantra of regular exercise and a balanced diet maybe hard work to fight the bulge but at least it wouldn't compromise your health in the long run.

Dandelion
Known as the "little plant that roars", it has natural diuretic and laxative properties to remove water and food weight before digestion begins and help your body reduce the feeling of 'feeling bloated'. Many avid dieters believe that diarrhea keeps their bodies from absorbing calories or fat but this is not the case and could lead to dehydration and dependency on laxatives. Dandelion is also a beneficial aid for digestion and because of its mild laxative properties, it can help in bowel movements to become more regular.

Green Tea
Despite not being classed as a herbal tea (as its leaves come from the actual tea plant 'camellia sinensis'), Green Tea has had the most extensive research carried out that has been proven to be very effective in weight loss. This is due to the 'polyphenol' component which is responsible for its slimming effects. It also contains caffeine which gives the drink its stimulant effects and can increase metabolism which helps to burn fat and calories. It is these reasons why the ingredients in Green Tea are widely used in popular diet pills.
Those suffering from anemia should take caution when drinking Green Tea, as it could lead to a reduction in iron absorption in your body which could cause iron deficiency.

Guarana
Guarana's main ingredient is 'guaranine' which is identical to caffeine. It can act as a stimulant to accelerate body functions such as increasing the heart rate, digestion and respiration due to its caffeine content. It is also a diuretic and can stimulate the nervous system and help you fight depression and cope with stress, thus it may help you to avoid 'emotional eating' which is one of the main causes of weight gain. Due to its high caffeine content, those suffering from sleep disorders and anxiety problems should be wary when taking this in large doses.

Hoodia Gordonii
Hoodia Gordonii is known as a 'natural appetite suppressor' and has been used for centuries by South African Khoisan herders to endure lengthy periods without food or water, whilst they were hunting and gathering. It contains the active ingredient, known as P57 which is responsible for appetite suppression that can "fool" the mind in thinking the stomach is full so you're not tempting to snack as much. Caution should be taken as long term use could lead to addiction and malnutrition.

Siberian Ginseng
Known as the "king of tonics", Siberian Ginseng is a popular herb to use for its ability to stabilize blood sugar levels thus reducing the desire to eat sugar and sweets. However, people who suffer from high blood pressure, narcolepsy (frequent and uncontrollable deep sleep) or taking blood thinning drugs should avoid it.
It can stimulate the nervous system and act on the pituitary and adrenal glands to give you stamina and help combat fatigue. An increase in stamina means you can work out for longer without feeling tired! Also used to treat nervous disorders, exhaustion, strengthen organs, increases mental ability and a powerful anti-dote to stress and problems with aging.

When the body is able to achieve better metabolic rate, it is able to make use of the energy more efficiently which in turn will result to losing weight instead of gaining it.

Individuals who love milk but who do not want to put on the additional pounds can choose fat free milk instead of the whole milk. Some people may be allergic to milk but most people can include it in their daily meals. Others with lactose intolerance problem may still enjoy small quantities of milk each day. Fat free milk on the other hand gives lots of calcium for the health benefit of people. Those who drink this kind of milk are also able to prevent bone problems such as osteoporosis. People can drink about 3 cups of not-fat milk every day. They may also combine their milk intake with lots of fruits and vegetables especially for those who would like to lose more weight.
There are also other health related benefits of drinking sufficient amount of fat free milk on a daily basis. The daily supply of calcium protects people from developing colon cancer. It also facilitates the attainment of a stable blood pressure level. Calcium is also needed by the body for blood clotting as well as for nerve conduction and it is needed for muscle contraction too. People may also benefit from the B vitamins that are contained in fat free milk.

People will also have to check labels when buying non-fat milk products. They can get more from those that are fortified with other vitamins like A and D. They also have to make sure that they read the expiration date that is indicated on the milk carton. People have to drink non-fat milk that has been pasteurized for health safety as well. Lose Weight by Drinking Milk?

It is typically our first form of food and nutrients. We're born crying out for it...Milk. Milk does a body good. That's what they say at least. Is it true? Well...studies continue to tell us all about the negatives of consuming cow's milk but there are definitely undeniably healthy attributes to the dairy supplement including weight loss.
Milk is submerged with protein.

A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed that adults who drank the highest amounts of dairy per day lost more weight than those who consumed less.
The study also showed that higher levels of vitamin D found in the blood were linked to weight loss.
The study included over 300 overweight individuals ranging in age from 40-65. Participants had to fill out questionnaires regarding their daily dairy intake. The dairy section comprised 12 foods, such as low- and regular-fat milk, chocolate milk, low- and regular-fat yogurt, and yellow and white hard cheeses.

"Our study suggests that both higher dairy calcium intake and increased [blood] vitamin D are related to greater diet-induced weight loss," said researcher Danit R. Shahar, of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Beer-Sheva, Israel.

The correlation between vitamin D and weight loss was amazing. Prior to the study the overweight individuals all had low levels of vitamin D. Has the study progressed those with the highest levels of vitamin D were the ones with the greatest weigh loss.

"Low vitamin D is associated with weight gain, and raising vitamin D is looking more and more like it is able to help with weight loss," says Vincent Pera, MD, director of the Miriam Hospital Weight Management Program in Providence, R.I
New age dieticians argue that cow's milk is full of herbicides, pesticides, antibiotics and variety of bacteria and viruses.

While others argue that is what homogenization and pasteurization is for. However, those processes are also known to destroy whatever nutrients are left. If you are afraid of the possible risks that may reside in natural dairy products there are several non-dairy alternatives out there.

A liquid that is growing in popularity...Almond Milk. Almond milk is made from the grinding and soaking of almonds. It contains less fat and calories than regular milk. Although, it contains more carbohydrates than regular milk.

Almond milk as an array of nutritional benefits ranging from free of lactose and cholesterol to rich in vitamins A, B and E. It is also said to improve digestion, strengthens the muscular tissues and lowers the risk of cataracts, heart diseases and cancer.
Another great substitute to cow's milk is soy milk. Soy milk is an extract of Soya beans, which are known for their health benefits. Soy milk, like almond milk, is also lactose-free.

Soy milk contains monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats (good fats), which include omega-6 and plant omega-3 fatty acids. Daily consumption of Soy milk can significantly lower cholesterol levels in the blood.
Being low in saturated fat, soy milk is known for its aid in weight loss. The lack of carbohydrates also helps individuals trying to lose weight.

For vegetarians who stay away from milk and eggs, soy milk contains high levels of vitamin B12 that will help boost your energy.
Almond milk and soy milk now come in a variety of flavors making them much more appealing.
You can substitute either for dairy and get the vitamins and minerals you need. Regardless, all three forms of "milk" have proven to show they help in losing weight. You don't have to stick to just one. Switch it up if you want. Just make sure you are getting enough calcium, protein and vitamin D to keep your bones and body healthy and fit.

How Much Water Should You Drink A Day To Lose Weight? On Water and Weight Loss

A lot of time, thought, and effort is put into losing weight, changing dietary habits and re-shaping body composition. Are you one of the thousands trying to eat less, control appetite, reduce cravings and lose body fat? Most people try very hard and the whole effort to lose weight just gets too hard. The good news is that you don't need to change your work ethic or will-power, in most cases you just need to work on your water and nutrient intake, with emphasis on both the quantity and quality of the water you drink.

Water Quantity:
So, how much water SHOULD you drink a day to lose weight? Studies and opinions on this vary but one of the most popularized concepts over the past 10 years (in terms of water consumption quantity) has been to drink eight, 8 oz. glasses of water every day. This guideline is based upon people of average weight and therefore you should adjust your intake according to your own weight.
For example, if you are a 225 lb. person, your recommended daily consumption would be more like ten, 8 oz. glasses of water per day while if you only weight 95 lbs., then six, 8 oz. glasses of water should be sufficient.
Taking in a satisfactory quantity of water every day is important because water helps your body perform a large number of tasks, including its ability to metabolize food and carry waste nutrients out of your body - important factors in losing or maintaining your weight.

Water Quality:
However, when trying to lose weight, perhaps even more important than the quantity of water you drink is the quality of the water! Simply put, drink waters (and eat foods) that are high in natural nutrients and you'll lose weight naturally.
Our primary reason for eating and drinking is to acquire nutrients. Your body craves the nutrition it needs to keep our bodily processes running 24 hours a day for the length of your lifetime. So, if the water you drink and food you eat are basically lacking in nutrition, your body will continue to seek it through continued hunger, cravings, and more eating.
It's not your fault, most bottled waters and tap waters have been through a filtration or reverse osmosis process and are lacking natural minerals and nutrients, while our foodstuffs are continually losing their nutritive value due in part to poor farming and environmental practices, not to mention processing and preservatives. So, your body ends up not getting the nutrients it wants and needs. You end up deficient in life's necessary materials.
You can easily correct this dietary deficiency by choosing to drink and eat right - for your body and life longevity. Choose fresh, organic fruits and vegetables and choose drinking water that is a natural well water with dietary elements and dietary compounds like calcium, magnesium, potassium and even alkaline substances like sodium bicarbonate.

Organic fruits and vegetables are now in much bigger supply and easier to find. Unfortunately, finding a natural, healthy mineral water here in the United States is not easy to do. We are fortunate in Texas to have one of the best natural water alternatives nearby in Mineral Wells, Texas. This water, with its naturally occurring blend of so many vital dietary elements and compounds, not only hydrates your body with clean, natural water, but also fulfills your body's needs for essential nutrition. With a surplus of natural nutrients through healthy eating and drinking, you body will crave less food and you'll end up with what you want, a leaner and healthier you with much less effort! So count your nutrients and not calories and look and feel your best... and live longer!

4 Ways to Increase Your "Persistent Fitness Motivation" & Hit Your Goals

It doesn't matter what the task at hand is because if you keep trying to accomplish it, you will eventually succeed. So what does this have to do with fitness motivation and you?
You need to increase your motivation so you can persist on getting the body you want. Motivation just happens to be one of the largest problems people face trying to hit their goals. That is no surprise...
1. Results take some time to come: Even with the best designed program, it takes at least a month to see some visible results. That is not long but it sure can feel that way.
2. You gain weight at first: If you are smart, you are weight training... and you might be surprised to see that you put on a little weight to begin with. That is before the massive fat loss.
3. You body is in constant pain: The first week to two weeks, you will have to get used to weight training and exercising... not the best feeling when you are not used to it.
These can be tough to handle at first, especially when you are new to fitness -- however, when you stick it out for at least 1 month, you will be blown away with the tighter, slimmer body.
The 4 ways to increase your fitness motivation:

1. Support
Having a support group, somebody to turn to, is one of the most influential ways to keep your motivation consistently increasing. How many times have you turned to friends or family when you needed support?
The key to getting the motivation support groups can provide is to participate. You actually need to use the support group. It may be difficult to open up to strangers, but know that these people are probably going through the same thing you are.

2. Accountability
Accountability goes hand in hand with support groups. You need to find people to hold you accountable. Bear in mind, this means opening up and sharing your goals... making a public commitment to reaching them.
First things first when it comes to accountability... you need to tell somebody you fitness goals and assign a time line to them. Now you are on the hook and need to pull through.

3. Inspiration
Time and time again, inspiration is all around you... have you ever paid attention to it? That is why having "like minded" people for you to associate with delivers the goods. You will find people who have been where you are and have succeeded.
These people are your inspiration. You can look up to them and use them has an example that it can be done. Consult and use these people... allow them to become your mentor.

4. Competition
Do you have the competitive spirit? Do you want to have that feeling of victory?
Create some friendly competitions with other people who share similar stages. You can not only push each other, but let the thirst for results push you to faster action.
The competitive fire is a great catalyst for action and making the fitness lifestyle part of your life.
Use these tips to stoke the fitness motivation and keep things going when you might be feeling the drain. Learn to always tap into fitness motivation and use it to set new goals.

Walking For Weight Loss

Despite all the media hype over fad "lose half your body weight in 3 minutes" diets, "miracle" diet supplements, weight loss surgery and low-carb, low-fat, low-sugar foods...blah, blah, blah, the simple fact is that the proper way to lose weight in a managed, sustainable way involves changing eating habits and becoming more active. And if you have been a couch potato for a long time, this can mean something as simple as getting used to walking more. In fact walking is a fantastic exercise for weight loss - a simple rule of thumb is that a 180 pound person will burn 100 calories for every mile.

The sad reality is that our increasingly sedentary lifestyles have resulted in a situation where we consume many more calories than we burn, hence the obesity epidemic which is spreading across the developed world. Remote controls, cars, computers, etc all contribute to lifestyles that involve just a fraction of the physical activity we are naturally designed for. So how do we make a change?

Obviously, if you have a weight problem, you are not going to be able to run a marathon 2 weeks after you start any new exercise programme. Patience is the key factor. Start slowly with a regular walk around the block, park a further distance from work (or get off the train/bus at a stop which is further away), use the stairs instead of the elevator, etc. Just start doing lots of little things that will increase your level of activity and then build up from there.

Few people realise just how good walking is as exercise; if you walk at a relatively moderate pace for 30-60 minutes, you will burn stored fat and can start to build muscle and speed up your metabolism. Studies also show that walking for an hour a day will help to reduce your risk of heart disease, breast cancer, colon cancer, diabetes and stroke.

In terms of the energy you use up during walking, the important thing is the distance covered, so when you start your walking for weight loss exercise regime, your focus should be on increasing the distance covered first and then you can look at increasing your speed. However, when you start building up the speed you will find that your workout will really start to bear fruit. This is because (surprisingly) brisk walking can be almost as energy-sapping as jogging.

The reason for this is that walking at a speed quicker than 3.1 mph will naturally lead to you increasing your stride length. Using longer strides is inefficient since is it requires additional energy to move your legs forward, which in turn requires more arm and torso movement, which can only be achieved by greater torso and hip rotation. Basically it means you are giving yourself a harder aerobic and calorie-burning workout.

Depending on your commitment and level of discipline, you will hopefully find that a simple walking regime will start to produce some great results in terms of weight loss and health improvement. The key is to then start increasing the level of activity to avoid a "plateau" effect where your body gets used to the current level of activity and no further weight loss gains are achieved. This increased activity may involve jogging, joining a gym, etc, but always be aware that there are some simple ways to burn many more calories whilst walking, including:

• Using walking poles; fitness walking poles such as Like poles and Nordic Walkers will help to burn more calories.
• Learning Racewalking; walking at speeds of over 1 mile per 13 minutes will use more muscle groups, burn more calories and build muscle.
• Carrying extra weight; as shown in many army training exercises, walking with extra weights is a great way for increasing fitness levels. Place the weight (not more than 10 pounds) in a backpack or at your hips so your body can remain balanced and your posture is not affected. However, this is not recommended if you are still relatively unfit or inexperienced - walking with poor posture or adding weight to your arms or legs can potentially lead to injury.

A final tip is to find a partner who can go walking with you. However, try to make sure this is a person who is fitter and/or more motivated than you - someone who will push you to greater efforts.
And a final warning - always remember that no amount of walking will help you to lose weight unless you regulate your eating habits as well.

The 3 Best Muscle Building Tips

-Tip #1: Work out on a consistent basis.
This seems simple yet many people seem to have a hard time working out consistently. Someone might workout four times one week, three the next, and not at all the following week. This approach to working out will definitely not get you the results that you are looking for. It is far better to start small and workout three times a week and actually do it as opposed to working out five times a week burning out and eventually quitting. If you are a beginner than you can workout more when you feel comfortable and are ready. There is no need to go all out from the start and doing that is not necessary to get results.

Tip #2: Have a plan when you enter the gym.
It always surprises me to see just how many people workout and have no plan to follow. Just entering the gym and doing some bench press with some curls will not yield any lasting results. This is because it is impossible to tell if you are making progress in the gym if you aren't keeping track of anything. By having an exact blueprint you will be able to track your progress and therefore achieve great results with your workout program. I also like to bring a stopwatch to the gym. This helps to keep my workouts honest and on track. If my workout calls for a minute in between sets, then a stopwatch is really the only way I can track my rest periods.

Tip #3: Make steady and realistic changes to your nutrition.
There is no question that diet plays a key and fundamental role in determining how you look. If you are new to fitness and working out, then making a complete overhaul to your diet is certainly not the way to go. Start with something simple like drinking fewer sodas. For example if you typically drink two soft drinks everyday then try cutting it down to one a day. The key with nutrition is to make it easy so that you can sustain your eating habits for the rest of your life. You and I both know that you aren't going to go the rest of your life without eating ice cream. The important thing is to find ways of getting to enjoy certain foods like ice cream and not having to worry about them ruining your diet.
If you truly want a better looking body then you need an exact blueprint to follow that implements these 3 tips and you must visit this site immediately. This workout program will help you get the body that you desire. http://musclebuildingroutinesformen.com

Walking and Naturally Healthy Bones

Walking is Weight-Bearing and Bone-Building

Something to always keep in mind when you are deciding what type of exercise works best for you in your pursuit of naturally healthy bones, is that in order to for it to be a good bone building exercise, it must be weight-bearing!
So, what exactly is weight-bearing?
Well, here's what it's not.
  1. Swimming. There is no doubt that swimming is an excellent thing to do, but it won't help your bones to get denser or stronger because the water is holding your body up and not your bones.
  2. Bike riding. Whether it's a stationary bike or one that you take to the street, it's still not going to build bone density because the bike is what is holding your body up and not your bones.
These activities are very beneficial and if you like to do them don't stop. But, if you want to make your bones strong, happy campers then you're going to need to find some additional exercises that you like to do too.
I've found that building bone density is great fun! And I've developed a newfound passion and excitement for exercise in a way I've never had before.
And as always, don't take any of my suggestions at face value! Check things out for yourself, and please be sure to get your doctor's approval before you start any exercise program.
Walking
A must for:
  • Osteoporosis
  • Osteopenia (and adding some jogging would be very beneficial if you are able)
Is Highly Recommended for:
  • Normal Bone Density (and adding some jogging would be very beneficial if you are able)
Benefits
How important is walking for building bone health and reversing osteoporosis?
In her book, "Building Bone Vitality", Amy Joy Lanou, Ph.D., even goes so far as to say, "a low-acid diet and daily walking are the only effective ways to prevent bone loss". However, I wouldn't stop there if I were you, especially if you already have established bone loss.
However, her statement makes an excellent introduction on the benefits of walking.
So, why walk?
  1. You can do it anywhere
  2. It's fun and you can do it outside (where the wonderful sunshine has the chance to lavish you with that awesome Vitamin D
  3. It's weight-bearing
  4. If you're able to stand, you're probably able to walk
  5. If done with purpose, it's healthy for your heart, core muscles, legs, hips, and mostly, your bones.
Walking for fun is definitely beneficial to your bones by helping to keep your stress levels down (stress increases cortisol, which can harm your bones), but it's not so helpful for building bone density. Remember, your bones want to live up to your high expectations for them - they were designed to work hard and that's what makes them the happiest. Working hard makes them stronger. Walking that builds bone is energetic, vigorous, and done with purpose.
But first, here's an important point that I will say over and over again - you mustn't compare yourself to anyone else. Those activities that are challenging for you might be easy for someone else, or what is easy for you might be challenging for someone else. But so what? You are the only one who knows what's best for you and you are the only one who knows what level of strength and ability you are currently at.
So let someone else zoom past you, let them all zoom past you - the important thing is that you are out there doing it. And when you get to the point where you are zooming past most everyone else, give them an encouraging smile as you sail right on by, knowing you were once where they are now.
You're getting stronger, and your bones are getting healthy naturally.

At Home Fitness

There's no real substitute for a well equipped gym or fitness center when it comes to getting a good workout. However, there are times when going somewhere to work out for an hour is simply too inconvenient. The option is to skip your workout, or adopt a fitness at home routine for those days when time doesn't permit you to take a break. Contrary to popular myth, maintaining your personal fitness at home is a lot easier than most people think.

The first hurdle most people face when wanting to maintain a fitness routine at home is staying focused and maintaining discipline. It's easy to concentrate on your workout when you're at the gym or fitness center. You're there to work out, the equipment is there, there are no distractions, and you may even have a trainer who's task it is to see that you stay focused.

Fitness at home is a whole other story. First, you need to be disciplined enough to set aside time to work out, and then actually do it. Distractions are another problem when trying to maintain a fitness routine while at home. It's hard to ignore a ringing telephone, crying child or the dog scratching at the back door and concentrate on you workout.

The next hurdle to overcome is a lack of equipment. Few people are fortunate enough to have a fully equipped home gym, so home fitness efforts have to be maintained using what is at hand and tailoring exercises to suit what's available.

For example, most homes have at least one set of stairs, and even if they comprise only a couple of steps that's enough to do stair climbs. Push-ups and stomach crunches can be done anywhere, as can an aerobics workout. If the weather is not suitable for a run, running on the spot inside is as good a cardio workout. Yoga is another exercise that can be done while watching television. A set of dumbbells and a chair are all you need to work your biceps and triceps. Squats work the leg muscles, and the list goes on.

A well thought out exercise plan and a few pieces of equipment could approach the results attainable at a gym. However, fitness at home should be mixes with workouts at a fully equipped fitness center. The wide array of equipment, as well as the environment itself, tend to make for a better overall workout. Fitness at home should be consider as more of a physical maintenance program for what gym visits aren't possible, rather than a substitute for proper gym workout.

Weight Loss by Walking For Women

"Lose weight and exercise." Your blood pressure, diabetes, or heart disease is getting worse and your doctor has just laid it on the line for you. Lose the pounds and get moving. "Oh, great!" you say, unenthusiastically. You may have kids, you have a job, maybe caring for a parent, you are tired and overwhelmed. Time to exercise isn't in the schedule.

Let's rethink this situation. Your health is the most important issue. If you don't have your health, you have lost everything. Besides, who can take care of you? Nobody can care for you, like you can. The first thing you need to do is put yourself on the list and up near the top.

Let's look at the benefits of exercise. Exercise boosts your metabolism so you burn more calories. It decreases your hunger and desire for unhealthy snacks. Exercise works the entire body including the heart and blood vessels, muscles, joints, bones, chemistry and hormones of the body, the lungs as it clears the mind. Regular exercise will increase your endurance, flexibility and agility. That means it helps your body be in shape, more stable and minimizes the chance for falls.

What is the easiest way to add in exercise? Walking. If you walk 20 minutes a day, 5 days per week, you can lose 10 pounds or more in a year, without dieting. Get a walking buddy and go for a 20 minute walk on your lunch hour.

I had gotten away from walking and exercise during a stressful relocation a couple of years ago. It seemed like I gained weight every month for about 18 months. I tried dieting, eating on very small plates, and diet supplements to no avail. I made it a goal to walk 3 miles several times a week.

The benefits of walking for me included more energy, clearer thinking, losing 15 pounds in 6 months and peace of mind. It also gives me the chance to review my day and pray.

Walking can cause problems with hips, knees, ankles and feet. Be sure to consult your doctor before starting any exercise program. Get a good pair of walking shoes or sneakers and good socks. If you need to, start slowly. Walk for 10 minutes every day. If the weather is bad, walk in a mall. Many malls have mall walker groups and the malls are marked for distance.

If you need some more support, there are excellent magazines about walking. These magazines will provide beginner and experience walkers with advice on shoes, clothes, walking sticks, tails, diet and more. They also will have stories about real people like you and I that have lost weight and gained health by walking.
Take twenty minutes every day to walk with a friend. Enjoy your friend, solve problems, tone your body, become healthier, clear you thinking.... priceless.

Walking and Weight Loss - How Walking Will Aid Your Weight Loss Efforts

Walking may be as good as any other exercise when it comes to weight loss. Walking and fat loss have been associated with each other even before these fad diets and other programs were formulated. Brisk walking is possible for anyone and everyone and as it helps to burn calories; it may as well be counted as one of the weight loss techniques. This can be proved by the help of "Walking Calories Calculator" and it actually tells you the number of calories you burnt in that particular walking session.
Did you know that calories burnt while walking at a low speed are the same as when you are running or jogging? Yes, it's true. The reason for this is that you tend to stop more often while running as your body tires whilst walking is a continuous affair. The momentum created in your body because of walking may make you lose more weight.
Walking is classified into two types- museum walking and race walking. Museum walking means walking at a slow pace and race walking refers to brisk walking. You must do brisk walking or race walking if you wish to lose weight. You can try climbing some bridge in the place of walking on a flat street. You can feel the excess calories burnt while climbing than while walking on a flat street. This is basically the phenomenon of walking and weight loss. I hope you have understood it.

You may face a problem if you live in a crowded city which has a dearth of running tracks and parks; but do not use this as an excuse to not exercise. You can walk on a tread mill any day. A simple tip- use your treadmill backwards. This results in maximum stress and subsequent burning of fat which will result in more fat loss.

In addition to walking, it is also advisable to implement proper dieting. Bad eating habits will make your exercise efforts worthless, so it is important that you put together a proper diet plan.

However, it is vitally important to review an online weight loss program before purchasing one, because you need to know what is right for your unique lifestyle. Walking to Lose Weight - 2 Tricks to Losing a Lot of Weight Fast

Interested in walking to lose weight? Well, before you start a walking program, you need to know 2 simple things you can do to burn up to 30% more calories and lose weight really fast while walking.
If you don't do these 2 things, then your typical walking program won't get you the fast weight loss results you're hoping for.

Walking to Lose Weight - 2 Tricks
1. Walk on an incline
Just walking on a flat surface is fine for long term weight loss, but it's pathetic for fast and IMMEDIATE weight loss. So why wait when you can make a simple adjustment... walking on an incline.
Walk up a hill... or I much prefer you to incline a treadmill 10 or 15 degrees and walk on it 15-20 minutes a day. Try it once and you'll be a believer. Within a few short weeks you'll see noticeable changes to your body.

2. Deep breathing while walking
The more oxygen you can inhale while walking, the more calories you'll burn off. Deep breathing does the trick. Here's how you do it.
Every minute you're walking you're going to take a deep breath... inhale for 5 seconds, hold it for 5 seconds, and exhale for 5 seconds. Nothing more, nothing less. Just keep doing it for the total 15-20 minutes you walk.

It's like a DOUBLE WHAMMY for weight loss when you combine incline walking with deep breathing. Your weight loss results will skyrocket. Heck, if you don't believe me, I challenge you to prove me wrong.
Walking to lose weight is great... especially when you combine the above 2 techniques for accelerated weight loss.

So I hope you use walking to lose weight... BUT...
If you're sick and tired of getting the same old boring and tired weight loss advice... you know, like "Eat more fruits and vegetables, drink 8 glasses of water, jog, and blah blah blah"... then you found the right person. I'll make weight loss easy and enjoyable for you... AND NOT BORING!

Quick Weight-Loss

I LOST 13 POUNDS IN 5 WEEKS, ALMOST BY ACCIDENT!

From 26 January 2013 to 27 Feb 2013, I dropped a dress size and now fit into a brand new bikini, size: SMALL!
Want to know how I did it?! Let me tell you:
There is a plethora of information out there on how to lose weight quickly, dieting and exercise. I've gone through a whole bunch of tips and tricks and ended up picking the following two, which worked wonders:

1. DIETING - What and how to eat for quick weight-loss
The information I came across (in laymen's terms):
a. Your body is most likely programmed to store carbohydrates (starches) as fat, making you pack on the pounds every time you eat.
b. If you cut out starches for 4 weeks, and stick to proteins and most veggies (not the starchy one's: potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, peas, corn), you reset your body's programming.
c. After the 4 weeks, your body will use carbohydrates to build muscle instead, making a lean, mean You!
How I applied it:
a. I had Oats for breakfast (not instant oats, the good old normal oats you need to make on the stove), with honey and cinnamon.
b. For lunch most days I made salad with whatever I could find in the fridge (tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber, feta cheese, an apple, tuna, etc).
c. For dinner I had a protein (chicken or fish mostly, just because I've never been too fond of red meat, but you can have any meat) with steamed mixed veggies. I even had the odd carrot, baby corn or peas with the mixed veggies, but as it was moderate I didn't fuss about it too much.
d. During the day I snacked continuously, not too bothered by counting what I'm having, on different kinds of proteins (eggs - boiled or scrambled, nuts, yogurt, cheese, etc).
e. I cut out soda pops, and fruit juices - which are filled with sugars - and cut down on coffee and tea. I mostly stuck to good old H2O - water!
f. One day a week I carbo-loaded. I had pasta, or potatoes, or bread, or aaaaanything else I felt like. This was in order to fool my body into thinking there is ample supply of starches, otherwise it thinks it has to go into storage mode to keep me from dying of hunger.

2. EXERCISE - How to make the MOST of your training time for quick weight-loss
The information I came across (in laymen's terms):
a. Training in the right heart rate zone has a huge effect on your goal for exercising.
b. If you train in the zone of between 60% and 75% of your maximum heart rate, your body goes to stored fat (the one's packed around your thighs and stomach!) and uses this for fuel.
c. If you train a bit harder and work up a proper sweat, your body needs more fuel, faster, and will go get it from what's available in your blood stream (all the carbohydrates you ate in the preceding 48 hours will be readily available there).
d. Thus, what you ate in the past two days will not be stored and won't add to your bulges, but the bulges you already have will mostly likely stay the same.
How I applied it:
a. I cycled (in the gym) at the desired heart rate (60% - 75% of my max) whenever I could. Sometimes once a week, other times I managed 3 times a week.
b. Having to stay in this training zone felt like I was sitting on my sofa having a relaxing time - which feels silly in the gym where people walk around and look at you with strange facial expressions! I'm sure they thought I was wasting my time! I ended up following Facebook or Twitter on my mobile while cycling, just so that I didn't have to see them looking at me!
c. But 5 weeks down the road I'm smiling and they're still sweating and struggling.
How to calculate your heart rate zones
a. Take 220, and subtract your age (in my case 220 - 33 = 187). This is 100%, your maximum heart rate!
b. Now, take this number, and multiply it by 60% and then by 75% (in my case,112 and 140). This is the most optimum training zone for quick weight-loss! Easy peasy!
NOTE: DON'T GO OVER YOUR MAXIMUM HEART RATE, THIS CAUSES DAMAGE TO YOUR HEART MUSCLES!

Quick Tips To Fast Healthy Weight Loss

So many today are asking the question of how can I lose weight in a very short amount of time.
The tips I am going to give you should help with weight loss but should also help you to keep that weight off at the same. I believe both are important to many different people as they struggle against the waistline getting bigger and bigger.

Before we get started, I want to mention that I don't agree with the idea that just because we get older we have to get fat and unhealthy. I do believe that all we have to do is take a look at the life style of the individual and their eating habits. Then we can see a common thread that many eat what they want and don't stay active. I think all we have to do is look at our kids today. We can see the trend of video games and eating junk food and fast food so that by the age of 12 or younger many have health issues such as high blood pressure and diabetes. This often gets excused as hereditary when really the habits have been learned to sit around and eat instead of getting out and playing sports and games. Burgers, fries and sodas have replaced healthy meals and exercise.

We want to lose weight fast but do it in a healthy way
I would start by drinking lots of water. I know water may seem boring to you but God did design our body to be mostly water and it needs water to flush the poisons out and to not retain water in the tissue and in fat. Studies have shown that the majority of people today are in a constant dehydrated state even though they drink lots of pop or sports or energy drinks. They also find that even though we take vitamins, we are still deficient in minerals. When our body is full of poison, the liver can't keep up, The body robs minerals from the bones and other vital places to try and compensate which makes the adrenal glands work harder..

This next tip goes right along with the first tip hand in hand. Put a little fresh lemon in the water. This will give the water flavor and it will also alkaline the water so your body already will readily absorb. Drink this lemon water in the morning before you ever eat and several times a day to help decrease water retention and the releasing of the poisons in the body that cause the body to retain water. Detox is so important to a quick healthy weight loss and a restoring of energy and health. You could also add a dab of cayenne pepper to your lemon a couple times a week to maker it a stronger alkaline process and also aid in the detoxifying of the body (I do mean a dab). Notice there is no soda pop anywhere in this article. Pop actually is extremely acidic and is next to battery acid in the PH scale. It also increases weight gain, due to chemicals, especially diet pop.
The next thing I recommend is to lower your sodium intake. Sodium causes the body to retain water and store it as well. Table salt and canned goods are the two largest sources for sodium. We can use sea salt instead of table salt and eat fresh vegetables instead of canned foods to do away with a lot of sodium.
These simple diet changes will cause rapid weight loss but is also a good idea to add exercise to the routine so the muscles can burn fat while you sleep and also speed your metabolism up even more, putting you and your body into overdrive.
